Wegner High Stool
CH 56
The UK architect John Pawson approached The Cale Schiang Partnership in the mid 1990’s for assistance in sourcing a suitable high stool for use in the First Class lounges for Cathay Pacific at Chek Lap Kok Airport Hong Kong.
On approaching the Wegner Studio, Marianne Wegner proposed a classic, functional Wegner design. The stool though simple in appearance was a cleverly constructed with four wooden legs held in place by a stainless steel ring on which to rest the feet, topped by a luxuriously padded leather seat. The stool was proto-typed by the Company most suited to the task Getama A/S who produced the first production run of 80 stools for the Pawson Project which was completed in 1998.
Stool CH56 together with a CH58 at the lower height of 68 cm were subsequently introduced by Carl Hansen and Son, initially as an exclusive design for Bulthaup only to sell alongside their kitchens.
