Following the devastating fire on 8 February 2024 when the wood working production was lost the Directors of Getama agreed that production of all Getama Wegner models are transferred to Carl Hansen and Son as of January 2025 with anticipated production in 2026.

Legendary Danish designer Hans J Wegner often said he designed chairs that he would ‘use himself’, and this is evident in the ‘U’ chair, which typifies Wegner’s signature style and is now available from Schiang have been exclusive to John Lewis in the United Kingdom. Originally penned in 1970, it shares all the characteristics of the chair master’s iconic designs; its simple wooden form made up of four legs joining a continuous back and arms wrapping around the sitter. This remarkable shape means it doesn’t have one good sitting position, but many, giving the user freedom to move in comfort.
